All those who sign the CONTINENTAL MI-KI ASSOCIATION, INC. BREEDERS CODE OF ETHICS may be subject to a kennel inspection (with notice) at any time deemed necessary by the Continental Mi-Ki Association, Inc. LITTER PLANNING/BREEDING:
1. All breeding females must be Permanently Registered with the Continental Mi-Ki Association, Inc. "A" registry, prior to breeding taking place.
2. The Continental Mi-Ki Association, Inc. Breeders are required to register their kennel name/prefix and the Breeder Code of Ethics must be signed and on file with the CMA Registrar before any of their Mi-Ki are bred.
3. Conscientiously plan each litter; always select a stud dog and bitch to be mated based on pedigrees, the conformation of both the stud dog and bitch (according to the Continental Mi-Ki Association, Inc. breed standard), health and temperament.
4. Breed only to/from adult Mi-Ki s that are free from known hereditary defects, and avoid the introduction of any detrimental factors. Any new defects encountered should be reported to the Continental Mi-Ki Association, Inc. immediately. The health issues of concern with the Mi-Ki breed are; Heart, Patella, Eyes, but are not limited to these areas. The CMA recommends that these areas be tested for defects on both sire and dam and recommends registering them with the appropriate organizations before considering breeding your Mi-Ki.
5. Adhere to the Continental Mi-Ki Association, Inc. current policy on inbreeding.
6. Breed only healthy, mature bitches, not before the second season, allowing sufficient spacing between litters, ie. 1 year between breedings. The Continental Mi-Ki Association, Inc. feels that back-to-back litters, 6 to 7 months apart are not sufficiently spaced and the practice is not recommended by The Continental Mi-Ki Association, Inc. If your bitch only comes into season every 8 months, then The Continental Mi-Ki Association, Inc. feels that these back-to-back breedings would be sufficiently spaced. The Continental Mi-Ki Association, Inc. recommends that every bitch have a complete vet exam, within 30 days prior to breeding date. It is recommended that all bitches over eight years of age not be bred and should be retired and spayed.
7. Do not breed any one bitch to more than one stud dog during a single heat cycle. Should a second breeding occur, resulting in multiple sires to a single litter, the recourse will be as follows: 1st offense, will be a warning from the Continental Mi-Ki Association, Inc. Registrar. 2nd offense will result in a $500.00 penalty added to the registration fee. 3rd offense will result in revocation of breeding privileges.
8. It is required that CMA breeders DNA all breeding stock as well as their litters through the United Kennel Club, Inc. Breeding stock must have their DNA completed and a colored copy of the DNA papers received by the Continental Mi-Ki Associations Registrar before registration into the A Breedable registry will be completed. All puppies in litters must have their DNA complete by the breeder and a colored copy of the DNA papers sent to the Continental Mi-Ki Association, Inc. Registrar and the original to the new owner(s).
9. The owner of the bitch is required to provide the Litter Application to the stud dog owner for their signature, thus informing them of the date litter whelped, the number and sex of pups born alive in litter.
10. A current Brucellosis test is required within 2 weeks prior to tentative breeding date for bitches, every 6 months for an actively used stud dog or prior to each different bitch to be bred. Owners must be prepared to provide test results to owner of bitch or stud dog before breeding takes place. A Brucellosis test is not required on first time breeding bitches or stud dogs or if both stud dog and bitch have always resided in same home and have not been previously bred to an outside stud or bitch. In this situation it is up to the owner of the dogs to make that determination.
11. Neither the stud dog nor the bitch being considered for breeding can be owned by a member of a conflicting organization nor can the Mi-Ki being considered for breeding be registered with a conflicting organization.

STUD SERVICES:
1. The stud dog must be registered with the Continental Mi-Ki Association as "A" Breedable, or if less than 10 months of age be "Temporary" registered with CMA and determined to be A Breedable by the breeder of the stud dog. The stud dog may also be registered with the International Mi-Ki Registry and considered breedable to be bred to a female registered with the CMA.
2. Breed stud dogs to only those bitches who are registered with the Continental Mi-Ki Association, Inc. or International Mi-Ki Registry. The owner of the bitch must provide the owner of the stud dog a copy of their Continental Mi-Ki Association, Inc. registration or International Mi-Ki registry registration with a (4) generation pedigree and the owner of the stud dog must provide the same information to the owner of the bitch.
3. The stud dog owner is required to sign and date the Litter Registration Application, within a timely manner, when provided by the Litter owner allowing them ample time to submit the application to CMA for Registration. The stud dog owner is required to keep a copy of the Litter Registration Application on file for future reference.
4. Stud dogs more than 10 years of age are required to have a sperm count and a sperm activity count performed by a licensed veterinarian before continuing to be used for breeding.
NOTE: WHEN PLANNING A BREEDING, ANY QUESTIONS OR CONCERNS WITH LITTER PLANNING/BREEDING AND STUD SERVICES SHOULD BE REFERRED TO THE REGISTRAR BEFORE THE BREEDING IN QUESTION TAKES PLACE.

HEALTH & GENERAL CARE:
1. Keep all Mi-Kis in a home environment with clean and sanitary run areas of adequate size with safety features for both the adult Mi-Kis and puppies.
2. A fenced in area of adequate size, walking your Mi-Ki on a leash or a supervised exercise area must be provided on a daily basis for the health and safety of your Mi-Ki.
3. Provide maximum health protection through regular inoculation, worming, and yearly veterinarian exams.
4. Maintain mental health and well-being through human contact and exercise on a regular basis. The Mi-Ki should be treated as part of the family and be involved in family activities as much as possible.

SALES OF MI-KIS:
1. Only sell puppies and adults to properly screened homes. The new owners must be prepared to give the Mi-Ki an adequate home and family environment deserving of this breed. Potential owners should give evidence that they have a satisfactory home environment, someone who does not breed more than 2 other breeds of dogs, and who will give proper care, attention and exercise required for a Mi-Ki. It is recommended that you do a phone interview with all prospective buyers of your Mi-Ki and during the interview ask a lot of important question to learn as much about the individual and the environment as you can. Written puppy screening questionnaires are recommended to be filled out by the potential buyers and be kept on file for future references. Be extra careful of puppy mills trying to acquire a Mi-Ki puppy for breeding purposes. Do not knowingly sell puppies or adults to pet shops, brokers, research labs or puppy mills, nor supply Mi-Kis for raffles, prizes, or similar projects.
2. Accurately represent the qualities of your Mi-Kis to the buyer(s) educating the general public on all aspects of the Mi-Ki breed that you know as fact. Do not knowingly use misleading or untruthful statements in selling or advertising your Mi-Kis. Do not share unproven stories about the Mi-Ki breed with the general public or other breed club members. STICK TO THE INFORMATION THAT YOU KNOW AS FACT!
3. Puppies must not be younger than (8) eight weeks of age prior to leaving the breeders possession. This includes shipping, any other type of delivery, or buyer pick-up, under any circumstances.
4. Spay or neuter any and all mature stud dogs or bitches with a known genetic defect or that are going to be retired from breeding prior to selling.
5. Place puppies with a genetic defect only with a written, signed and dated agreement requiring that the Mi-Ki puppy is to be spayed or neutered. The agreement must state that the Mi-Ki puppy is to be spay/neutered by (6) six months of age and the buyer is to send a copy of the vet statement showing that the spay/neuter took place with the Mi-Ki's name and date clearly appearing on the statement to the breeder and CMA Registrar. The breeder is required to keep all litter and all individual puppy paperwork on file for future reference.
6. Provide buyers with health and general care information at the time of the sale. The breeder must include general care information such as feeding (scheduled or free feedings) and general care instructions, a veterinarian health certificate, and a record of all vaccinations with dates and labels and worming with dates and labels. Several days supply of the puppy's current puppy food is recommended.
7. Provide buyers with the BREEDER temporary puppy registration certificate and original Certificate of DNA Analysis. Breeder should keep a color copy of DNA Analysis on file for future references. The breeder is responsible for filling out Puppies Name, Sex, Registry (Initialing, "A" Breedable or "B" Non Breedable), Section A on the back of Temporary Registration and signature at the time of sale of the puppy. The breeder is encouraged to fill in Color, Ear Type, Coat type and help the new owner in filling out all other areas left blank at the time of sale.
8. Breeder must provide buyer with the Continental Mi-Ki Association, Inc. Membership Packet. Puppy owners must be a current member of the CMA to register their Mi-Ki. The CMA Membership Packets are available to all Mi-Ki members and breeders free of charge. You may obtain them by contacting the Secretary of the Continental Mi-Ki Association or by visiting the CMA Website where the Membership & Breeders Packets can be printed.
9. Be responsible for any Mi-Ki that you are a breeder of throughout the life time of the Mi-Ki. If a purchaser can not keep a Mi-Ki that you have sold, make every effort to assist them in finding an appropriate home. If the owner(s) are unable to place a Mi-Ki for whatever reason, or a displaced Mi-Ki that you have bred is located in a shelter or in a rescue program, be prepared to take the Mi-Ki back into your home and be responsible for placing the Mi-Ki in an appropriate home.
10. Use sales contracts or written agreements to cover any and all pet quality Mi-Kis, show/breedable Mi-Kis, and any special provisions of sales or service transactions. Breeder must keep all contracts and agreements on file for future reference.
11. Agree to provide any documentation to the Board of Directors in a timely manner if requested and deemed necessary by the Continental Mi-Ki Association, Inc. Officers and Board Members.
